About ROT13 and ROT47
ROT13 ("rotate by 13 places") is a simple letter substitution cipher that replaces a letter with the 13th letter after it, in the alphabet. It is a special case of the Caesar cipher which was developed in ancient Rome.
Because there are 26 letters (2×13) in the basic Latin alphabet, ROT13 is its own inverse; that is, to undo ROT13, the same algorithm is applied, so the same action can be used for encoding and decoding.
Supported Modes
- ROT13: Rotates letters (A-Z, a-z) by 13 positions. Leaves numbers and symbols unchanged.
- ROT5: Rotates digits (0-9) by 5 positions. Leaves letters unchanged.
- ROT18: A combination of ROT13 and ROT5. Rotates both letters and numbers.
- ROT47: A derivative of ROT13 that introduces a mix of numbers and special characters. It rotates ASCII characters 33 (!) through 126 (~) by 47 positions.
